What is spiritual mentoring?
Spiritual mentoring is a 1:1 relationship where I support you in developing a strong spiritual practice that involves praying with plants. This is essential for preparation and integration of ceremony experiences, and is available regardless of whether you’re presently praying in that way. Depending on your needs we may do this through:
Praying together, listening together for the movements of spirits as they unfold in real time
Variety of somatic and energetic practices — often spirits speak in this way, getting in touch with ourselves helps us identify their voices and hear them more clearly. Also helps us know ourselves better, which helps us listen better.
Recommendations and teaching of specific prayer practices
Talking about your ceremony experiences and watching together how the medicine reverberates through your life
I offer these to you so you too can be in direct apprenticeship with plants, ancestors, and the rich spirit world all around and through us. The practices I teach and offer are grounded primarily in the animistic frames as I have been taught, or in the teachings plants, ancestors, and spirits have opened directly in my own being. I am honored and delighted to accompany you on your path!
Is this therapy?
No, this is not therapy, and I am not a therapist. I am happy to collaborate with your therapist or psychiatrist if you have one, or to refer you to one if you need one. In spiritual mentoring, the focus is on learning how to pray with plants, not addressing clinical mental health issues. That said, some plants and spirits are profound spiritual healers and some people completely transform their lives in the course of our work together. I encourage you to accept these healing gifts as they manifest!
Tell me about your religious/spiritual orientation. I already have religious/spiritual commitments — will they be respected? Or, I have religious trauma. Am I going to get pressured into something?
You’re welcome as you are, and you hold the ultimate authority for your spiritual path. My approach is practice-heavy, not belief-heavy. I will do my best to meet you where you are at, and I genuinely look forward to learning from you as well.
What I have to offer is complete trust in (1) the wisdom of your body and being, and (2) the plants themselves to offer divine revelation, when they are approached in a respectful way and with discernment and proper preparation.
This is a path of discovery of the voice of Spirit, guided and shaped by animistic practices. No need to control what Spirit says, in fact, that would be counterproductive to learning and listening. It requires some courage to let go in this way, but over and over again, what I see and hear in response to this approach is Love, so I have grown to trust it.
I am personally a practicing Catholic as well as deeply committed to animistic practice, cosmology, and worldview. When we pray together, naturally these commitments form large part of my altar. The altar is the anchor for our work together. I find it important to preserve that and am happy to discuss more about what that looks like and how I understand it to support the work.
At the end of the day, to me this is a journey into the heart which knows no bounds. The systems of belief are scaffolding on our way there.
Practicalities:
Sessions can be done via video/phone or (by request) walking in a natural place in Sonoma County, California. My fee is $200/session. If you are in deep need and/or committed to long-term work, I will work with you to make it financially feasible.
